Responsibilities
- Ensure all Barrick Tanzania safe work practices are observed and implemented in the department of responsibility.
- Ensure the preparation and execution of electrical maintenance plans and schedules on the daily basis of daily, weekly and monthly mining and ore processing priorities.
- Supervising, training, developing of the electrical maintenance team.
- Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
- Manage Succession Planning within the Team to ensure that Barrick achieves development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability. Development of Electrician Technicians to positions of increasing accountability is a Key Performance Indicator.
- Lead the Outside Team with regards to odd shifts, commitment with Barrick Gold principles
- Utilize Oracle maintenance management modules as an effective Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- Develop and implement procedures for identification, approval, planning, scheduling, execution and recording of Outside Services electrical work that are in alignment with Barrick guidelines and best practice.
- Implement and monitor maintenance budgeting and cost control systems.
- Develop long-term electrical maintenance plan.
- Manage electrical workshop facilities.
- Manage on-site power supply and distribution.
- Provide technical input into development of training packages.
- Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Electrical Team.
- The quality, cost and timeliness of electrical maintenance activities are critical to the project as whole.
- Ensure electrical maintenance costs are kept to, or below assigned budget.
- Display a sense of urgency to ensure timely repair and maintenance of mine and plant electrical equipment. Contribute to the operations by ensuring that all electrical maintenance activities are planned and completed in a cost-effective manner with minimal disruption to ore processing and mining activities.
- Develop and promote a quality customer service to all departments within the mine.
- Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices by example and act immediately on any unsafe act or situation observed and monitor standards
- Full compliance with the project environmental management plan
- Support investigation and follow up action of all loss incidents
- Monitor all maintenance activities and eliminate any wasteful practices, ensuring agreed targets for maintenance are met.
- Develop and manage departmental technical plans to achieve the overall business objective.
Qualification requirements
- Trade qualified in electrical discipline NTA Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering / Associate Diploma NTA Level 4 or similar.
Experience and competencies needed.
- Minimum of 7 years’ Post qualified experience in electrical repairs and maintenance with at least 3 years in leadership role.
- Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees in developing is essential.
- Experience in computerized electrical machines maintenance systems.
- High voltage experience essential-33 & 6.6KV
- 20MW-Power Generation plant KTA-50G3 engines experienced essential.
- Experience in MV & HV Switching and testing procedures
- Programmable Logistic Controllers, CITECT-SCADA experience.
- Experience in Complex Protection relays- SEPAM
- Experience in the functionality of GSM’s and the setup thereof
- Extensive knowledge relating to VSD’s, Soft starters, Autotransformers, Liquid resistance starters (LRS)
- Experience in maintenance budgeting and spares management
- Excellent Safety record.
- Good Communication Skills, English & Swahili
- Computer Skill-Word, excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge to interpret manuals, technical drawings, electrical diagrams.
- Driving ability with valid driving license class D.
