The Aga Khan University (AKU) invites applications for the following position based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:
Position Title: Associate, Human Resources
As an HR Associate, you will play a vital role in supporting the employee lifecycle for the University. You will be involved in recruiting and onboarding new faculty and staff, managing employee relations, administering benefits, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and maintaining accurate HR records.
Position Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process for academic positions, including drafting compelling job descriptions, advertising vacancies, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and conducting background checks.
- Ensure a smooth and positive onboarding experience for new hires, including facilitating induction programs, coordinating with IT for equipment setup, and managing necessary documentation.
- Support the performance evaluation process for academic staff.
- Assist in developing and implementing performance improvement plans as needed.
- Collaborate with the Learning and Development team to identify training needs and organize relevant training programs for academic staff.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees and line managers, addressing their queries and concerns related to HR policies and procedures.
- Assist in the management of employee grievances, disputes, and disciplinary cases, ensuring fair and equitable treatment.
- Conduct exit interviews to gather valuable feedback and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage employee benefits programs, including medical insurance, leave management, and pension schemes.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of benefits-related paperwork.
- Provide guidance to employees on benefits enrollment, utilization, and policy changes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, both physical and electronic.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations.
- Assist in conducting regular audits of HR processes and documentation.
- Assist in preparing regular HR reports, including leave reports, medical usage, and other relevant metrics.
Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR/Business Administration or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in HR administration, preferably in a large, multi-site organization.
- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian labor laws.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
