Functional Responsibilities:

Summary Of Key Functions

As part of the programme, the STEM Trainees will be involved in activity-based training, providing hands-on practical experience through the provision of support to project partners on the various activities. These include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in Energy Audits, Site Visits & Needs Assessments:
  • Support in engaging schools and communities on clean cooking benefits and contribute to awareness campaign;
  • Assist in carrying out cooking energy needs assessments in schools; and
  • Collaborate in conducting energy audits to provide cost-benefit analysis for advocacy use.
  • Provision of Cookstoves and trainings:
  • Assist in the installation and distribution of eCookstoves to schools;
  • Support project partners in training events and capacity building workshops;
  • Support in organizing demonstrations for communities and advocacy events; and
  • Support on troubleshooting and maintenance of eCooking solutions at schools
  • Monitoring:
  • Support project partners in data collection exercises; and
  • Support with data analysis and reporting.
  • Engagement in Clean Cooking, Carbon Finance & Advocacy:
  • Contribute to initiatives promoting clean cooking solutions for environmental sustainability;
  • Gain insights into carbon finance mechanisms and their role in driving sustainable energy projects across the carbon finance trajectory and value chains; and
  • Participate in advocacy efforts to raise awareness and advocate for policies supporting clean cooking practices.
  • Communications & Social Media:
  • Use social media channels to promote clean cooking initiatives, sustainability practices, and advocacy efforts;
  • Create and publish engaging content, including posts, videos, and graphics, to share on personal social media channels (e.g. Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn).

Training components and learning elements

The STEM Trainees will also be expected to attend virtual trainings on professional development, including soft skills, and relevant technical topics. These training and learning activities include: – Undertake technical training sessions to enhance technical understanding of the energy sector with a focus on clean cooking, including:

  • Undertake soft skills training sessions to support professional development of STEM Trainees including, but not limited to:
  • Career development (including resume development, interviewing, networking, and mentorship); and
  • Communication and social media training.
  • Knowledge of technology options, performance, benefits, cultural acceptability, etc.;
  • Appropriate use of electric cooking (eCooking) appliances and basic care; and
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and framework (eCookbooks, metres, data analysis).
  • Introduction to carbon offsets and markets for clean cooking activities.

Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education

  • Applicants should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to their application, in a STEM field (i.e., sciences, renewable energy, engineering, or related areas).

Experience

  • Applicants are not required to have prior work experience, however prior experience in energy, engineering, finance, communications or related field would be an advantage

Language

  • Fluency in English and Swahili is required
