Purpose of the Internship Program
The African Union Internship Program offers an exciting opportunity for individuals from diverse academic backgrounds to gain practical experience while enhancing their professional skills. Interns will be exposed to the workings of the AU at an early stage in their careers, providing hands-on experience in various fields. This opportunity serves as a platform for grooming future African leaders.
Focus Areas
Interns will assist with administrative and technical support for the effective implementation of African Union programs, projects, and activities in the following departments/directorates:
- Cabinet of the Chairperson
- Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson
- Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
- Economic Development, Trade, Industry, Mining (ETIM)
- Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI)
- Infrastructure and Energy (IE)
- Political Affairs, Peace and Security (PAPS)
- Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development (HHS)
- Human Resources Management (HRM)
- Operations Support Services
- Management Information Systems Division
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
- Conference Management and Publications (CMP)
- Citizens and Diaspora (CIDO)

Eligibility Requirements
- Must be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree or have completed a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Must be a citizen of an African Union Member State.
- Fluent in at least one of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese).
- No more than 32 years of age at the time of selection.
- Must have the highest standard of moral conduct and integrity.
- Prior work experience is not required.
Terms and Conditions
- Duration: The internship lasts for three (3) months and can be renewed once.
- Compensation: No financial support will be provided for travel, accommodation, or living expenses. Interns are responsible for these costs.
- Visa Support: AU will assist in obtaining entry and residence visas.
- Insurance: Interns must have their own health insurance coverage during the internship period.
Required Skills and Core Competencies
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
