Job Opportunities at Danish Refugee Council (DRC)

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is currently seeking qualified candidates for two exciting positions: Finance Assistant and Human Resource and Administration Intern. These roles are critical in supporting DRC’s mission in Tanzania, and successful candidates will contribute significantly to the organization’s operations. Below are the details for each position, including responsibilities, qualifications, and application links.

1. Finance Assistant

Overall Purpose of the Role:
Under the supervision of the Finance Team Leader, the Finance Assistant provides financial and administrative support to DRC and partners according to DRC and donor regulations and procedures within the Country operations in Tanzania and Burundi. The Finance Assistant contributes to the development and implementation of country strategies, translating them into action plans and day-to-day tasks while providing technical guidance to country operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily accounting (bookkeeping) according to the DRC operations handbook.
  • Handle cash and bank payment vouchers for day-to-day financial transactions.
  • Ensure all payment supporting documents are complete and in accordance with DRC financial procedures and regulations.
  • Manage petty cash and clear cash advances upon request.
  • Update cashbooks daily to reflect the actual status of cash count and bank balances in all currencies.
  • Issue cash receipts for all collected cash and reconcile bank account statements.
  • Prepare weekly cash counts and ensure reconciliation in DRC Dynamics.
  • Maintain proper filing of all financial documentation (vouchers, contracts, tender documents, etc.).
  • Create vendor invoices in Dynamics for high-value procurement.
  • Process payments to vendors through bank cheques and Internet banking.
  • Handle monthly tax and other statutory payments before deadlines.
  • Process payment for incentive workers monthly and stamp “PAID” on all vouchers post-payment.
  • Create project expense journals for low-value procurement and reconcile accounts payable and receivable in DRC Dynamics.
  • Support donor verifications and annual audits.

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with administrative tasks and good communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and basic proficiency in PowerPoint and Word.
  • Well-developed organizational and planning skills.
  • NGO experience preferred.
  • Fluent in English and Swahili.

Education:

  • Diploma in Finance/Accounting or equivalent professional qualification.

Key Stakeholders:

  • Internal: Finance staff, Program Managers, Human Resources, Procurement and Logistics, Area Managers, Country Director.
  • External: Incentive Workers, Donors, Local Auditor company in Tanzania, Local TAX authorities, NMB Bank.

2. Human Resource and Administration Intern

Overall Purpose of the Role:
Danish Refugee Council seeks a qualified and experienced Human Resource and Administration Intern to provide HR support/service to the HR department, including maintenance of employee files and employee record-keeping management.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, attendance, and performance data.
  • Follow up with essential documents from staff by providing help with inquiries and assisting in team organization.
  • Reorganize employee files to ensure custodian files are properly filed.
  • Archive closed employee files and records.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.

Experience and Technical Competencies:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Human Resource and Administration.
  • Experience in an NGO is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or relevant fields from a recognized college or university (preferred).

Languages:

  • Good proficiency in written and spoken English and Swahili.

Key Stakeholders:

  • Internal: DRC programme staff, HOSS, other HR colleagues.
