The Aga Khan Education Services, Tanzania (AKES, T) operates three schools, from nursery to secondary levels. Each school aims to provide a quality education that will impart a broad set of personal and intellectual skills which develop independent inquiry and critical thinking abilities. The origins of the Aga Khan schools in Tanzania go back to the 19th century when a girls’ school was started around 1905 in Zanzibar by Sir Sultan Mohamed Shah Aga Khan III. The focus of AKES in Tanzania is to implement educational programs that are designed to assist students in acquiring life skills and intellectual foundations that will enable them to make their way confidently in a world increasingly characterised by globalisation and technological advancement. To meet the needs of diverse communities, AKES in Tanzania operates schools which run both National -NECTA and International curricula International Baccalaureate -IB and IGCSE International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

Primary School

Learning Support Teacher

Position Summary: 

To provide specialized support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they have equal access to the curriculum and opportunities for academic success Scope of Work:

  • Conduct assessments to identify students’ learning needs
  • Develop Individualized Education Plans (lEPs) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders
  • Provide targeted intervention and support to students both in and out of the classroom
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and modify curriculum materials
  • Monitor and track student progress, adjusting interventions as necessary
  • Provide professional development to staff on best practices for inclusive education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and develop lEPs for students.
  • Provide direct support to students in accordance with needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with parents and staff.
  • Participate in professional development and team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Certification for conducting psych-education assessments and access arrangements.
  • Experience working with diverse learners.
