ELECTRICIAN 1.
Responsibility Scope.
The Electrician uses a working knowledge of electrical systems to conduct maintenance, fault-finding, and diagnostics on existing systems. Installs new electrical systems, including lighting and heating, to Lipton standards and to maintain those systems while upholding safety guidelines and complying with codes and regulations. The incumbent should have minimal knowledge on troubleshooting motor problems and motor rewinding procedures and tools.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Maintenance and Repair
• Diagnose and repair electrical system problems in offices, workshops, streetlights, water supply and pump houses and domestic buildings including fault finding, rewiring, and monitoring,
• Assess the parts needed for the job and place orders for those parts.
• Ensure good quality workmanship which upholds company standards, complies with building codes, and follows safety requirements.
• Locate and adjust defects in electrical systems and equipment including heaters, washing machines, oxygen machines.
• Express ideas on technical problems clearly and concisely orally and in writing in the English language.
• Comply with state codes, fire codes and OSHA.
• Work alone to find and present faults and concerns in electrical systems without receiving explicit direction.
• Perform maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting of power and control circuits, single phase and three phase motors.
• Repair and maintain engine generators and carry out work on related control circuit equipment.
• Draws circuits on a single line diagram for controls.
• Design functional electric circuitry for electrical systems.
• Carry out motor rewinding procedures. Should advice company on all required tools and proper materials for motor rewinding.
• Carry out thermography of electrical distribution panels and motor control.
• Being able to trouble shoot burnt motors and offer long term solutions. Should also write a fully technical report on the root cause of the problem.
• Should be keeping record of all activities done according to engineering SOP.
Safety.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
• Do safety inspection on all electrical equipment.
Special Knowledge/Skills
• Ability to use hand tools.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
• Ability to read blueprints and diagrams.
• Ability to use measuring devices and understand what is measured.
• Ability to work independently.
Qualification Requirements.
• VETA level III or FTC.
• 3 years’ experience in heavy current/ high voltage electrical equipment and systems.
• Ability to do motor rewinding and troubleshooting on motor burning will have added advantage.
• Canvassing will lead to disqualification.
