Tanzania Health Promotion Supports (THPS) is an indigenous NGO established under non-governmental organization act No 24 of 2002 in 2011. THPS works in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MOHCDGEC) and Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG), The Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Health in Zanzibar with a goal of ensuring accessible high-quality health care services to Tanzanians; through strengthening of health and community systems for comprehensive quality health services including HIV/AIDS; Tuberculosis; prevention of GBV; reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health (RMNHCAH) services; laboratory and health management information systems (HIMS).
THPS is currently implementing projects in comprehensive HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care, Support and Treatment among general populations in Pwani and Kigoma regions; key and vulnerable populations across 25 district councils at 13 mainland Tanzania regions and Health laboratory services strengthening in all mainland regions and Zanzibar.
Moreover, THPS implements TB and Family Planning Integrated Facility solution activity aimed to improve access to and use of quality Tuberculosis (TB) and family planning (FP) services for better health outcomes of Tanzanian citizens in Katavi, Kigoma, Rukwa and Songwe regions. Through collaboration with MoHCDGEC and Ministry of Home Affairs, THPS implements Police and Prisons activity aimed to strengthen systems, improve ownership of HIV and TB services, and ensure delivery of integrated, person-centered health services to police and prison staff, their families, prisoners, and surrounding communities.
THPS collaborates with the Government of Tanzania and other IPs in supporting implementation of harmonized and sustainable health information system. THPS through the US Ambassador Fund addresses harmful gender norms that are barriers to accessing health care, prevent and respond to GBV using gender transformative approach in 3 Wards of Mkuranga district.
Additionally, THPS implements research and evaluations across health programs to generate evidence that informs public health interventions
