Position Description

North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Occupational Health Nurse to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.

About North Mara

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit).

Responsibilities

  • Providing nursing care at North Mara Mine clinic.
  • Conduct daily patient triage and ensure smooth attendance at the clinic.
  • Responsible for emergency care including medical evacuation
  • Administering medicines, injections and vaccinations as prescribed by the doctor.
  • Assisting in conducting investigations i.e audiometry, spirometry, and vision screening during medical check-ups.
  • Conducting routine inspections of clinic/ ambulance equipment’s.
  • Maintaining employees’ medical records.
  • Coordinating the return to work program following work-related injuries or a period of prolonged ill-health.
  • Assessing the work environment for potential health and safety hazard.
  • Delivering a range of health and safety related training programs including Site Induction.
  • Participating in meetings, and health promotion activities; and delivery of awareness sessions.
  • Implementing health initiatives/programs e.g. PHE scheme, First Aid, HIV/AIDS Workplace program, Malaria etc.
  • Keeping up to date with legal and professional changes associated with Public Health and Occupational Health and Safety.

Qualification requirements

  • Diploma/ Bachelor in nursing from a reputable college.
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and knowledge in project implementation is added advantage.

Experience and Competencies needed

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in a reputable hospital or organization.
  • Must be with good communication skills in both Swahili and English.
  • Capacity and willingness to work as a team member, in a proactive manner, under pressure when necessary.
  • Performance-oriented individual with strong conceptual thinking ability
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with staff and officials at all levels in an international environment.
  • Culture-sensitive, with good interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate and demonstrable skills in database, MS excel, MS word and ability to produce good reports/summaries.
  • Ability to deliver a power point presentation
  • Possession of a valid Tanzania Driving Licence is desirable
