The Agronomy Trainees are fresh graduates from the agriculture background that are trained with JTI in relation to building relationships and providing extension services to all JTI contracted growers to deliver the target crop that ensure we meet or exceed our commitments (Business and sustainability) in line with the business annual strategic plans.  To achieve this the Agronomy Trainee is expected to form a good working relationship with Growers and Primary Society leadership to deliver on their key responsibilities with support from the current line management and mentors under whom they will be working.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Grower contracting: Support to establish the required grower base within the allocated growing area to meet JTI contracting volume and quality needs.                                                                                                      
  • Grower visitations: Visit each contracted grower in each crop cycle to provide extension services, monitor crop production and to secure the contracted tobacco.  These services will include and are not limited to training, monitoring, progress reporting, geotagging, barn program monitoring, afforestation monitoring, NTRM monitoring and other services as required from time to time.                                        
  • Sustainability:
    • PS, Grower and JTI Woodlots: Support to monitor PS, Grower and JTI woodlot establishment throughout the lifecycle
  • Data Management: Participate in accurate and timely data collection as required for each crop phase, including volume (volume, bale, stored bales), forestry and barn data.
  • EHS: Apply Company EHS principles and practices to prevent incidents, actively participate in health and Safety training programs, understand legal and JTI EHS requirements associated with their work.
  • Company assets and security: Maintain and monitor the Company Allocated assets to manufacturer specification or best practices while ensuring the safe use and overall security of all allocated assets (Motorcycle, safety equipment, mobile phones, GPS units, computers, etc.).                                                                                                               
  • Agriculture labour practice: Monitor and manage ALP observations, reporting and follow-up.                                                                             

 

Key Requirements:                       

  • Fresh Graduates from the agricultural institute (Mati Tumbi) in tobacco
  • Education Qualification of at least a Degree in General Agriculture or similar fields
  • Tobacco Knowledge is essential for the position
  • Excellent Language proficiency where fluent in spoken and written English and Kiswahili
  • Computer: Basic Internet and Excel Knowledge
