Position Description
North Mara Gold Mine Limited is seeking to recruit Geotechnical Technician to join and grow their team. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets with our best people teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost-effective manner to achieve targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures and ensure daily targets are met.
About North Mara
The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabigena (open pit).
Responsibilities
- Promote health and safety in the working place
- To work under the direction of the Geotechnical Engineer to ensure the interests of the Company are upheld
- Daily inspections of active underground headings and stopes
- Daily pit inspections, dumps inspections, sump inspections and reporting
- Geotechnical core logging of diamond drill cores and updating of the geotechnical database
- Geotechnical mapping of underground development headings and open cast exposed faces underground laser scanning and data processing
- Supervising scaling in the open cast mining to make sure it’s properly done and all berm crests protected
- Ensure adherence to geotechnical standard operating procedures and all relevant company procedures
- Working with a slope stability monitoring radars and other geotechnical monitoring instrumentations
- Conduct pre-stopping inspections for input into the stope note process and audit reports to accompany mining instructions
- Installation of ground movement monitoring systems and recording of instrumentation data
- Maintaining adequate stocks of ground support consumables on site
- QAQC of installed ground units (pull testing)
- Supervision of all geotechnical drilling activities
- Compliance with all statutory regulations and procedures
- Compliance with all the company’s policies and procedures
- Upwards reporting as required
Qualification requirements
- Diploma in Mining Engineering/Geology/Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge in in data entry software’s
- Knowledge on rocscience software will be an added advantage will be an added advantage (Dips, Slide2/3, RS3/RS2, unWedge etc.)
- Valid Tanzanian driving licence
Experience and Competencies needed
- Must have knowledge of MS office suit of computer programs
- Must have practiced geotechnical engineering during and obtaining formal education
- Knowledge of underground mapping and core logging techniques
- Basic Understanding of Geotechnical software: DIPS, UnWedge, RS2
- Basic understanding of mine design software; Surpac, Deswik CAD.
- Physical fitness to be able to work in an underground mining environment
- Work under minimal supervision
- Ability to interpret mine layouts
- Must have sufficient communication skills
