ABOUT GEITA GOLD MINING LTD

Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its head office in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and also a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. Applications are invited from ambitious, energetic and performance driven individuals to fill in vacant position(s) mentioned below:

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

The purpose of the role is to lead an effective team of community liaisons officers to support company initiatives related to building and maintaining relationships with new and existing members of the community around Geita Gold Mine, to attain and maintain the Company’s social license to operate, increase brand awareness and generate required community support.

            QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Community Development / Relations, Development studies, Laws, Public Relations, or any other related academic background
  • A post qualification in community development / relations (will be an added advantage)

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 – 8 years relevant experience, or Extensive experience in, and knowledge of, stakeholder engagement practices especially in the Mining industry.
  • Proven practical experience in Social and Economic Development.
  • Experience in other areas relevant to mining industry (or similar) will be an added advantage.

            MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Spearhead liaisons with local Government Authorities and all stakeholders in the relevant zone to develop and maintain good relationship.
  • Plan, develop, organize, and manage the process of public meetings on health/environment campaigns, workshops bonanza/ sports to strengthening the community relations.
  • Oversee and manage the process of mine site visits from government & non-government institutions, religious institutions and the general host community and prepare reports on the same
  • Work to identify stakeholders/ community needs and challenges associated with GGML operations
  • Represent the company in public and non-public community events/activities to promote interaction and maintain the company’s positive image.
  • Manage the process of awareness, recruitment and training of casual workers drawn from the host community.
  • Advise the Superintendent on appropriate areas of priority in drafting the Company’s Social Responsibility Plan based on information collected during regular stakeholder engagements
  • Support and engage in ongoing GGM activities (CSR projects) related to sustainability as well as being able to follow up and provide appropriate feedback to the community during regular engagements.
  • Prepare and submit engagement plan for communicating CSR programs and outcomes
  • Prepare and produce weekly and monthly report to the Superintendent.
  • Manage reunion of children rescued in the mine with their families and relevant government authorities
  • Conduct annual PERs and submit IDPs based on personal and business perspective to address capacity building requirements that may be deemed necessary
  • Regularly review management documents such as Policies, procedures and plans and provide opinion on areas that need improvement
  • Maintain and foster a work achievement ethic.
  • Participate in conducting assessments regarding GGML operations i.e., ESIA, EMP, Risk assessments, etc.
  • Provide support that may be required by any section of the Department in connection to the general interest of the Company
  • Enhanced relationship between Government, Community and GGML
  • Contributes to the attainment, sustenance of the Company’s social license to operate
  • Safe execution of engagements with various stakeholders
  • Weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on Community relations activities
  • Prepare and execute community sustainable development plans
  • Provide Leadership and technical guidance to Community Liaison officers / coordinators
  • To assign team members tasks as per agreed plan of work
  • To maintain right behaviors of the team members and can recommend disciplinary actions in line with company policies and procedure
  • Build, nurture and maintain relationship between local government authority and host communities
  • Plan, manage and oversee community sustainable development projects

            ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of current marketing techniques and PR practices
  • Proven ability to build trust, encourage community residents to participate in change-making activities in their community.
  • Capable of articulating the company’s values and intent to stakeholders
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to motivate and lead

  • Capable of initiating and leading social dialogue with stakeholders
  • Innovativeness, perseverance, and passion for community/social work.
  • Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team and promote socially responsible mining practices across the company.

  • Strong written and spoken English essential, including demonstrated report writing abilities.
